Bathroom/Mudroom Project

If you read my post at the beginning of the year, also known as February, you know that creating a mudroom in my house was on my list of things to do.  Well, I am happy to say that it’s done!  I bet you are wishing I had before pictures, huh?  Well, let me tell you a little something about how I operate.  When I get into project mode, I don’t stop for silly things such as taking pictures of the crappy bathroom I am getting rid of, or say, even peeing, or drinking water (which go nicely together).  I just work with my head down until one of the other 4 Kleinsassers starts begging for a meal.

If you have had the fine pleasure of using my bathroom before, you will remember that it was painted a dark shade of green.  There was also a door between the bathroom and the (tiny) laundry room.  I never actually closed the door (there is actually a funny story about that, called “The One Day My Neighbors Decided to Open Their Blinds”) but it was taking up the entire wall space in the laundry room.  My neighbor/friend suggested that I just take the door off.  Brilliant!  Love those “think-outside-the-box” people.  This also prompted me to buy blinds for the window.  So no worries, people.  You can pee in private at my house now.

I spent about 2 hours on Pinterest and came up with a brilliant plan to use IKEA furniture to make myself a mudroom on the now open wall of my laundry room. HA IKEA – take that!  Using your “media” stand to hold my shoes.  Actually IKEA had the last laugh because nothing I bought fit right.  I made lots of trips to that dreaded store, and finally gave up and pitched a fit at the right party, because our friend Matt heard it and offered to custom build something for my area.  Oooh, is this what it feels like to be rich?  Custom-built for MY house?  Fancy.

I finished it off with a row of hooks for the coats and a cute basket for hats and mittens.  I also painted the whole bathroom and laundry room/mudroom a cheery tealish, which a realize is not a real word, but it IS a good descriptive word because I bet you know exactly what I mean.  Then I also decided to fancy it up even more and trim around the mirror.  I also needed, of course, a custom art piece with words from a song that we all love.  Pete has started to occasionally drop hints that we have too many wood signs in our house, so I decided to try my hand at something else. I really like it, and I am growing up, and learning to care less what other people think, so it’s going to stay (for a while at least).

Hope you enjoy this very mini picture tour!  And may you have the pleasure of coming to use my bathroom sometime soon!

My cute little helper who was supposed to be taking a nap, but decided morning naps are for babies. Yes, she has a screwdriver. Yes, that is her “smile” when she sees a camera.

The pot and plant are the one IKEA purchase I ended up keeping.

I spray-painted my ugly wall plates- who knew!

I also spray-painted this! Amazed at the difference it makes!

After I completed all this, I was at a friends house, and she did a very similar thing, except she has a whole area for BIG things, like sports gear, when the kids get bigger.  I can’t even begin to think about that.   I will just pretend that I have created a solution that will work forever.
